carta 2/28

First the thing with Jared… I received two emails from him today… I don’t know what happened with that but the same thing happened with my mom… I didn’t get her emails one week… then I got them but last week I didn’t get anything from him… I think that’s what happened.

So ya I don’t know anyone from Peru very well… just one of my companions but he is half and half… his mom is from Peru and his dad is from the states and he didn’t know Spanish before his mission just English. So with him, he talked to his grandma for the first time without a translator… it was pretty cool for him to talk with his grandma.

Right now I’m in a new area and all so I’m trying to get to know all the members. They seems nice and all but really I have only talked with a few of them for a few minutes on Sunday so I don’t know what they are really like… my companion is from californai… but everything is good here in Guatemala… truly I love this country… its so cool here. A bit dangerous sometimes, but I really enjoy the country. I have a shirt that says 100% chapin o guatemalteco…. And I feel like I belong here.

carta 2/21

ok so every day when i go to the bathroom i have been reading a talk or something out of the liahona...i dont know why i started to do that but there have been some realy good talks that i have read....i was reading this mionths liahona and i read something by john bytheway...it was about friends and where our friends are going to take us....he siad, ¨be the kind of friend that takes people to christ¨ and really if we are there friends we will want to helop them not be a detriment to them. so we meed to be that kind of friend....there are also a bunch of talks from the may conference that i was reading...if you havent read the talk by Uchtdorf titled you are my hands i think that is what it is called....so yea sory i write in english i havea killer headache.....love you

So this week was normal for me too… my relationship with the ward and all is getting better but we’ll see what happens… we are working with the organizations more and all but there are still some th ings but it is normal. We are just trying to do all that we can and wait until they help us… we have some investigators that we have found through los rejistros de ensenanza (teaching registry?)…. We found a young boy that says he wants to be baptized and what happened was the elders were taken out of the area and they didn’t leave his name for the next missionaries to teach him. We took him to the chapel yesterday. We just have to teach him a little and see if there is support from his family. He is the only person right now that is progressing and everything is good with him. There are a few others but they didn’t come to church and they’re harder to find. Who knows what will happen with them… they told us we have cambios tonight so we will see if we have cambios or not.

ok so every day when i go to the bathroom i have been reading a talk or something out of the liahona...i dont know why i started to do that but there have been some realy good talks that i have read....i was reading this mionths liahona and i read something by john bytheway...it was about friends and where our friends are going to take us....he siad, ¨be the kind of friend that takes people to christ¨ and really if we are there friends we will want to helop them not be a detriment to them. so we meed to be that kind of friend....there are also a bunch of talks from the may conference that i was reading...if you havent read the talk by Uchtdorf titled you are my hands i think that is what it is called....so yea sory i write in english i havea killer headache.....love you

Okay this week was a little weird but it’s all good we tried to have an activity but it didn’t work… the ward didn’t support us, it’s difficult but it’s all good…we’re gonna see what we can do to help the ward and change it a bit…but I think this has happened in other areas… I know I didn’t do as much to help the missionaries either… but I don’t know…

Okay so this week I was shaving and I went to use my machine and when I opened it there were a few ants in there but I didn’t worry about it and then I realized that there were some in the razor… so I thought fetch, they are inside…

So I started to take apart the thing and there were a ton of ants in there… it was horrible… I put bleach in there and all to kill them but now I’m worried they’re going to return… the rest of the week was normal. We went to the dentist and the mission (president?) wants to put brackets in my companion’s mouth… we’ll just see what happens with that… love ya

carta 1/24

Okay the truth is it depends there are many different cultures and all so it depends are where you are. So yes and no… I don’t know anything about Nicaragua… only that its pretty poor out of all of central America and its one of the poorest countries… but I don’t know, he’s a little weird and all but I think it’s just the kind of people there and really, he doesn’t talk much, I’ve tried to talk with him but it’s difficult… I don’t know if it’s the people from Nicaragua or just him, there are some gringos that are pretty strange too but I don’t know if its because of the place or what…
Okay this week, like I told my mom was good because Elder Ballard came and we went to a missionary conference with him… so we only talked about missionary work and what we can do to help the people and all but ya it was pretty interesting and I learned a ton from him… Okay my companion has been in the mission 7 months and he’s still a bit of a ‘greenie’, I think that he doesn’t feel comfortable talking with people and all but we’ll see what we can do to help with that and improve him… so we’ll see.
In the 15 months since I left the CCM, I have had 8 companions and 6 of them are latinos… one from Honduras, el Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua…but I don’t know why I’ve had so many latinos… love you

Letter Home 1/24/2011

hey so not much new this week....my comp has like 7 months in mission and is from nicaragua like i said....ok so i guess that this week someting super cool happened...elder ballard came to guatemala...elder christofferson came too but he went to other places....and elder burton also went to other places he went to see the temple in xela...so that is pretty cool they are going to dedicate it this year sometime in the next 6 months i think somewhere around that time period....so yea that will be sweet but elder ballard is sweet he talked in english because he doesnt know spanish so that was good to here him and all that....he talked of the importance of the investigators praying and recieving an answer for themselves if they dont pray they will never recieve their answer so it was just that they need to do it and we need to follow the spirit to then be able to know what to say and when to have them take the steps and all that....

elder clark the area president talked about missionaries and when they get home they are "weird" well he said i think that they said of jose smith and jesucristo that they were not normal either....we came on missions to be better to change if we go home the same then we did something wrong for 2 years. we dont need to and shouldnt go homw and change right back...its not right....we made habits and are stilll making habits and to do stuff for 2 years and than go break those habits when we get home isnt something that should happen....so it was a super good conference it was just missionaries so that was fun to jsut focus on what he is saying and not have to worry if the investigators are understanding what he is saying or if they are just competly lost....so it was good to just enjoy it....

ok so i dont know if you remember that i said something about how gringos eat better than lats....well my comedor or the place that we eat lunch at she told me that she doesn't want to keep giving us food because my comp doesnt like anyhting that she gives us and it gives her pena i dont know how to translate that....its like she feels bad or she is a little offended maybe....im not positive...so thanks to him i don't know what i am going to do for lunch and i really don't want to cook so that will be fun to figure out i am going to try to talk to her and see if she will keep on doing it but i have till the end of the month to talk her unto it or fins someone new.....thanks a lot comp.....

ok so on shutting down im not sure what to say ....i think that really it is his diet i know that when i eat a bunch of crap that it is bad and if its the same thing with him to have a good diet and not just eat a bunch of sugar and stuff like that...i know its hard but i think its also a state of wanting to not shut down....elder ballard said something to the extent of just get over it and go on...he was talking about being excited and being happy in general...so really its like this if you want to be happy you are going to be a lot more happy than someone who doesnt want to be happy or isnt focused on being happy....so i think that is part of it too...on just wanting to not shut down...but who knows im no doctor...but that is what i think.. love you

ok so i do have a new comp his name is elder molina i am still in the same area so that hasn't changed, its called asuncion.....its been good he is really different than elder velasquez but its only been a couple of days so we will see what happens here.....this computer is being retarded so im not sure if it will let me send pics but we will see what happens......ok so i ate this stuff i forget what its called but it was like bbq but it was some part of the bone, and i don't understand why but the gringos for some reason eat a lot more variety than the latinos...they always say that they don't like it but we just eat it if we like it or not...so its frustrating when that happens and stuff even the members say that gringos eat better and different things we are more willing to try new things....so that is interesting....love you
elder price

well you always can relate the most random things to something good......that is a good analogy. not sure why anyone would want to do that geocaching...but i guess that there are a lot of people in the world who say the same thing about the church right......good analogy...

so this week elder ballard comes....also with him will be bishop burton of the presiding bishopric so that should be legit...I’m looking forward to that, it’s going to be on Thursday and so that will be awesome...

right now we are preparing an activity. we are going to de the iron rod and have members and inactives and investigators do the iron rod and then talk about how important it is in our lives to always be faithful and strong...so that should be good that is next week so we will see what happens with that....but it takes some time so we will see if we have the support of the members...we are going to be inviting a bunch for that this week so that no one can say that they didn’t know about it...so that will be interesting....so pop hope that you are doing good and that you are helping out the misisonaries in the ward, because i know what its like to have a ward mission leader who doesn't help i have had some luck in my mission with some leaders...they are all not the most helpful....love you dad..
